From this remote location Andy competed extensively, doing well as junior, winning silver medal at the Canadian Junior Nationals in 1983. He eventually settled in Hamilton in 1988 at the Kawasaki Rendokan judo academy where he practiced judo under Sensei Kawasaki and Sensei Professor Nakano. He continued to train at Kawasaki Rendokan until injury interrupted his judo career for a period of 8yrs, an injury which led to hip surgery. Having both hips resurfaced took a long painful recovery but the love of judo has brought Andy back to Kohbukan Sisu as an instructor with a competitive energy and mindset.
